Dear Premier Scott Moe,
I am writing to commend your government for the considerable progress made on the Saskatchewan Health Human Resources Action Plan. The newly ratified agreement with the province’s physicians is a major achievement that will go a long way towards recruiting and retaining doctors.
Since September 2021, over 400 physicians including specialists and family doctors have been recruited, both domestically and internationally. This influx of medical expertise will be instrumental in enhancing access to primary care for Saskatchewan residents.
The Final Clinical Placement Bursary has also clearly resonated, with nearly 200 nursing students making use of it to complete their training and pursue health careers in the province. And the addition of over 960 nursing graduates to the provincial workforce demonstrates your government’s commitment to developing homegrown talent.
Overall, through partnerships, incentives, and investments into training, your multi-pronged strategy is paying dividends in addressing health human resource needs. I applaud these substantive efforts to strengthen the healthcare system across communities both urban and rural. As additional Action Plan initiatives are actualized, I am optimistic about further improvements in recruitment and retention of nurses, physicians and other essential healthcare providers.
Please extend my congratulations to the Health Minister and department officials driving this progress. I look forward to seeing the positive impacts for Saskatchewan residents and hearing of continued milestone achievements in the months ahead.
Sincerely,
Dr. Femi Ogunrinde DHA, C.Dir, ASC
